Poetry, prose, essays, short stories – one day, maybe even a book! Update: it’s in the works!
A bookworm since my early teens – I loved the believable evasion of historically-based fiction, the creativity of fantasy, and the emotional rollercoaster of horror. Books were both home and escape from reality, to me – they even served as make-shift therapy in the form of the self-help genre, shaping me into the inquisitive researcher I am today.
Instictively, as a young teen I began to express myself through poetry and short stories. My friends loved to read my dark or fantastical stories, and my teachers appreciated my creativity. It paid off in grade eight: I won both the French and the English awards at my graduation. The teachers that inspired me made that moment so transitional for me, the child of immigrant parents who most people would never expect to take the step beyond a secondary school diploma.
Throughout highschool I was determined to read all of the classics! I needed to get all of the knowledge of all of the literature! Of course, I didn’t succeed – how could anyone? It’s a good thing: what we used to call classics was a very narrow, white-washed (literallly) closed box – I knew there was more out there, and although I still read some of what we once called classics, my travels and the engaging, connected people I have been blessed to meet continue to inspire me to open up my mind to new possibilities.
Today, besides my work in translation. I enjoy writing cheeky critical pieces, like this review I wrote on a Adele’s song, Someone. My love of writing poetry never did end: currently, I have been writing poetry inspired by my yoga practice. I’ll be sharing some of these right here in my blog!
I have so many ideas for novels I would like to write – some fiction, others biographical and a few self-help style manuals informed by my many blunders through this almost half-century of being me. When the time and momentum strike – I will share them with the world!
My research never stops… I have an active mind that loves to ask questions and enjoys the journey through the proverbial rabbit hole that my instict leads me through. You can check out my current areas of research in the Translator tab of this website.
